Preparing Your Environment

Devices

Rumble's Quest runs on:

  • PCs (Windows)

  • Mac computers

  • iPads

Ensure devices meet minimum specifications before scheduling sessions. See the Supported Devices section in Get Rumble's for full requirements.

Note: If children play on their own devices (BYO), remove the app after they've finished. Rumble's Quest is a measurement tool, not a recreational game, and unsupervised play outside your school or organisation will contribute invalid data to your reports.

Internet Connection

Devices must be connected to the internet for data to be sent to the server.

If your network uses a firewall, you may need to whitelist Rumble's Quest. See the Firewall and Whitelisting section in Get Rumble's for the domains and ports required.

If connectivity is lost during play, data will be cached locally and automatically uploaded when the game is next started with an internet connection. For guidance on resuming play and submitting results after a connection drop, see Play the Game.

Headphones

Rumble's Quest includes audio throughout, with music, sound effects, and a narrator who reads questions aloud. Every child should wear headphones while playing. This:

  • Helps children focus, especially those who benefit from hearing questions read aloud

  • Keeps the room manageable when multiple children are playing at once

  • Maintains privacy of responses

Physical Space

Create the right conditions for accurate data:

  • Quiet space, treat it like a test environment (without the pressure), free from distraction and interruption

  • Adequate time, allow up to 1 hour per session (covering setup, briefing, and gameplay)

  • Physical separation, even with headphones, give children enough space between them to feel their responses are private

Scheduling Sessions

  • Allow approximately 1 hour per session

  • Schedule all children over an appropriate period (e.g., 1–3 weeks depending on the size of your group)

  • Whole groups can play in single sessions if enough devices are available

Younger children (Grades 1–3): Consider smaller groups, they may need help entering the Quest Key and completing their profile. Once the game begins, even young children catch on quickly.

Keep track: Use the Align Responses feature in Rumble's Quest Manager to monitor which children have completed the game, and plan catch-up sessions for those who were absent. See Align Responses for more detail.
