1 - Getting Ready to Rumble
Rumble's Quest is a validated tool for measuring social and emotional wellbeing in primary-aged children. Through an engaging game designed for 6-to-12 year olds, children respond to questions in a natural, age-appropriate way, giving your school or organisation reliable data to understand their strengths, plan support, and track the impact of your wellbeing initiatives over time.
The game measures wellbeing across six domains:
Positive Identity
Connection to School & Learning
Behavioural Wellbeing
Emotional Wellbeing
Social Wellbeing
Positive Support
To understand what each domain covers and how they're measured, see What Rumble's Quest Measures and Why.
The System
Rumble's Quest has two parts:
Rumble's Quest App — The game children play on devices. Rumble, a friendly character, guides children through an interactive story. The game format makes it easy for children to express how they experience the world, while built-in tasks also measure executive skills like working memory and attention control.
Rumble's Quest Manager — The web platform you're using now. This is where you manage participants, set up data collection rounds, and generate reports.
This Guide
This guide covers what you need to prepare before children play. Getting this right ensures a smooth experience for everyone and produces reliable data for your reports.
The Rumble's Quest Journey
Collecting wellbeing data with Rumble's Quest follows a seven-step process. Each step builds on the last, so it's worth understanding the full journey before you begin.
1. Get Ready - Prepare your team, staff, parents, children, and environment (this guide)
2. Get Rumble's Quest - Download and install the game on your devices
3. Add Children - Upload your participant list to the Manager
4. Create a Quest Block - Set up a data collection round and receive your Quest Key
5. Play the Game - Children play Rumble's Quest under supervised conditions
6. Align Responses - Match game responses to your participant records
7. Generate Reports - View and export your wellbeing data
8. Taking Action - Use your data to plan and deliver targeted wellbeing support
You're at Step 1. Once you've prepared everything covered in this guide, you'll be ready to move through the remaining steps with confidence.
Before You Begin
There are four areas to cover before your first Rumble's Quest session. Each is outlined below, with a link to the full guide.
Know Your Team
Access to Rumble's Quest Manager is managed through RealWell Accounts. Not everyone needs access, and all users can view children's personal information and wellbeing data, so it's important to be thoughtful about who you add and ensure they understand their responsibilities.

Preparing Your People
Three groups need to be across what's happening before children play: your staff, parents, and the children themselves. Each group needs a different level of information, from a full briefing for staff through to consent management for parents. Resources including a staff briefing guide, parent video, and sample consent form are available to support you.

Preparing Your Environment
Rumble's Quest runs on PCs, Macs, and iPads. You'll need to confirm your devices meet specifications, check internet connectivity and firewall settings, organise headphones, and set up a quiet space where children can play without distraction. This section also covers scheduling, with guidance for different age groups and group sizes.

Supporting Children After They Play
Most children enjoy the experience, but the game can sometimes prompt thoughts about things happening in their lives. Knowing how to respond and what support options to make available is an important part of the process.
